The only thing you can take to heaven with you is a friend - TOOLS

TOOL #1 “Fork in the Road”

Dr. Seamands tells of a Muslim who became a Christian in Africa. "Some of his friends asked him, 'Why have you become a Christian?' He answered, 'Well, its like this. Suppose you were going down the road and suddenly the road forked in two directions, and you didn't know which way to go, and there at the fork in the road were two men, one dead and one alive--which one would you ask which way to go?'"

TOOL #2  “Circle of Knowledge”

1.      Draw a circle.

2.      “If all the knowledge in the world were in this circle….draw a slice that would indicate how much of that knowledge you know.”

3.      “Is it possible there might be some knowledge out here in this other part that you haven’t heard or don’t understand?”

4.      “May I show you something you may not know completely?”

TOOL #3  “Here Come de Judge ANALOGY:

If a man comes before the judge and is pronounced guilty and is sentenced to die, but the judge comes down from his post, takes off his robe and extends in his hand a pardon…the prisoner must reach out and accept the gift.  Christ came down to earth to set us free…we must reach out and accept the pardon… we must each make the decision for ourselves to accept Christ as our personal Savior and Lord.

TOOL #4  “St. Peter”

·        ASK THE QUESTION:  “If you died today and got to the gates of heaven and St. Peter asked why he should let you in, what would you tell him?” (If it’s any answer but Christ died for my sins… Then Christ died needlessly.)

·        “May I show you in the Bible what God says about it?”

TOOL #5:  “Gods Word”

1.         On the first page of your Bible write

“Sharing Christ” then “turn to page _____

2.         Now turn to Romans 3:23…go back to the first page and write that page number down.  At the top of the page in Romans write: OUR SIN and underline the verse.

3.         At the bottom of the page write “turn to page ____”

Hold your place while you go to the next verse and record the page # on the preceding reference page.

Write the following captions & verses at the top of the page

§         OUR SIN:                                                Romans 3:23

§         OUR PAY DAY:                                      Romans 6:14, 6:23

§         WHAT CHRIST DID:                            Romans 5:8, I Corinthians 15:3-6

§         IS THERE ANY OTHER WAY:            John 14:6

§         THE QUESTION:                                   Acts 16:30-31

§         ASK GOD FOR SALVATION               Romans 10:9-10, Ephesians 2:8-9

§         ASSURANCE:                                         John 5:24, Romans 8:38-39

§         GO PUBLIC:                                           Matthew 10:32

§         PERSONAL INVITATION:                   Revelation 3:20

Romans 3:23  “For all have sinned and fall short of the Glory of God.”

Romans 6:23  “For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

Romans 5:8  “God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us”

I Corinthians 15:3-6  “Christ died for our sins…He was buried…He was raised on the third day, according to the Scriptures…He appeared to Peter then to the twelve.  After that He appeared to more than five hundred.”

John 14:6  “Jesus said to him, ‘I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me.’”

Acts 16:30-31  “And after he brought them out, he said, ‘Sirs, what must I do to be saved?”  They said, ‘Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved, you and your household.”

Romans 10:9-10  “If you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved, for with the heart a person believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation.”

Ephesians 2:8-9  “By grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not as a result of works that no man should boast.”

John 5:24  “Truly, truly, I say to you, he who hears My word, and believes Him who sent Me, has eternal life, and does not come into judgment, but has passed out of death into life.”

Romans 8:28-29  “For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

Matthew 10:32  “Therefore anyone who confesses Me before men, I will also confess him before My Father who is in heaven.”

Revelation 3:20  Christ says,  “Behold, I stand at the door and know; if any one hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him.”

Now ask your friend the questions:

1.     “Do you believe that Jesus was the Son of God?”

2.     “Do you believe He came to earth as a man to save us from sin?”

3.     “Do you believe He died and was resurrected on the third day?”

4.     “Do you believe that belief in Him and only Him is the only way to heaven?”

HEAD KNOWLEDGE:   There are many intellectuals, even preachers, who have the head knowledge, but not the heart knowing.  It is through a personal relationship with Christ we are saved.  No one can make the decision for another.  It is between each of us and Christ.  Each must make a conscious decision to receive the free gift of Christ.

THE PRAYER:  Tell the person to whom you are witnessing he/she may accept Christ right now by faith through prayer:

“Would you like to do that right now?  God knows your heart and is not so concerned with your words as with the attitude of your heart.  A suggested prayer:  ‘Lord Jesus, I need You.  Thank You for dying on the cross for my sins.  I open the door of my life and receive You as my Savior and Lord.  Thank You for forgiving my sins and giving me eternal life.  Take control of the throne of my life.  Make me the kind of person you want me to be.’  If this expresses the desire of your heart we can pray it together…repeat after me.”

If you have led someone to Christ:  Encourage them to find a church, a Bible Study group, “not forsaking our own assembling together” Hebrews 10:25; to make a public confession of faith in baptism.  Suggest they begin reading the Bible in the New Testament…and to call with any questions…if you don’t have the answers…you’ll find them or lead them to someone who does.  Encourage them with follow up calls of interest and love.  AND pray for them.
